The project

The reopening of Llevant’s railway is one of the most important railway actions currently underway in Mallorca. The initiative seeks to restore the old connection between the municipalities in the district. It aims to provide a public transport alternative in an area where population and mobility have grown significantly in recent decades, especially along the stretches between inland areas and the coast.

The proposal seeks to reopen the railway line between Manacor and Artà, divided into different sections, including the urban stretch through Manacor and the sections to Son Carrió, Son Servera and Artà. In previous phases, connecting branches to coastal areas such as Cala Millor and Cala Rajada were also proposed, although these were subject to separate suitability studies.

Beyond rail infrastructure, the project has a broader landscape dimension. The reopening of the route makes it necessary to reconsider its compatibility with the existing greenway and to seek solutions that keep pedestrian and cycling routes as close as possible to the original line. As such, the project not only affects mobility, but also spatial planning and local connectivity.
