Remodelling of the Sóller drinking water treatment station (ETAP) and the adaptation of the reservoir’s chlorinated system

The project

The water currents intended for the production of drinking water require maintenance and compliance with basic physical, chemical and biological requirements to check for the existence of existing discharges into the riverbed. This was the reason for the conduct of a study by the Desalination and Supply Management and Construction Section technical services of the problems involving Torrent Major de Sóller, concluding that it would be first necessary to disinfect the waters that are collected from this torrent in addition to the ETAP treatment.

The aim of this project is to treat the water through the adaptation of incoming channel systems and the installation of a system involving agitation and addition of sodium hypochlorite once it has undergone ETAP roughing. It is also planned to improve the chlorination of the existing reservoir to ensure proper water quality for human consumption.

The modification to take place in the ETAP operation process involves the inclusion of disinfection prior to the filtering process. The most difficult issue involves ensuring that there is minimal contact time between water and sodium hypochlorite to guarantee disinfection

The work to take place consists of the construction of the double channel in GRP, the installation of agitators in the chlorination reservoirs, the modification of the reservoir covers, the remodelling and expansion of the chlorination facilities, and the upgrading of the Sóller reservoir chlorination system.

It has been decided to open out the existing channel into two, in order for there to be one allowing entry into the chlorination reservoirs and another that will transport the water from these reservoirs to the filtration reservoirs.
