The Former Dino Golf Course Will Give Way to a Large Urban Park

Palma is developing a new green lung in Platja de Palma with funding from sustainable tourism tax

What does it consist of?

Palma City Council will turn the site that hosted the former Dino Fantasía golf course into a large 35,000 m² urban park. This action, funded sustainable tourism tax, seeks to renovate a degraded space and re-open it to the public in line with environmental, social and accessibility standards.

The project

The project is part of the 2024–2025 Annual Plan for the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism, which channels sustainable tourism tax towards actions that contribute to a more balanced model of tourism. In this case, work is being carried out on three sites in the general system of public spaces in Platja de Palma, one of the coastal areas under the greatest strain in terms of urbanisation and tourism.

The old mini-golf course, which is no longer in use and has a licence that’s about to expire, will be demolished to create a permanent accessible green space. The works include the removal of hard paving and the installation of a pedestrian walkway to Parc Llaüt. There will also be new children's play areas, spaces for physical activity and inclusive furniture. Priority is given to native plant life that requires a low amount of water, and major improvements to natural drainage are planned.

This project aims to revamp the neighbourhood and urban environment while mitigating the effects of climate change. The area will be open to the public as a shared space for recreation and socialising, helping to renovate the Platja de Palma landscape and extend the tourist season beyond the summer.

Over €5.7 million is being invested and will be implemented in several phases between 2025 and 2027. It is hoped that this new urban park will serve as a model for further renovations to spaces for citizens on the Balearic coast.
