With a view to the objectives of the Biosphere Reserve Action Plan and the Menorca 2030 Strategy, the project implements a wide range of actions ranging from the restoration of habitats to the promotion of more responsible tourism models. Its design seeks to address the ecological, social and economic challenges the island is facing in a context of climate emergency.
Specific actions include the creation of a team to eradicate invasive species in Natura 2000 areas, a comprehensive study of Menorca's islets and the restoration of the surroundings of the Favàritx military battery. In addition, over 100 electric vehicle charging points will be installed and grants will be made available to reduce light pollution in tourist accommodation. The total investment of the project amounts to over 10 million euros. In the field of education and social participation, school workshops, interpretation routes and teaching materials related to the Biosphere Reserve are promoted. Plans also include the drafting of the project for a future interpretation centre in S'Enclusa, the former military base in Ferreries. These educational components seek to foster a direct link between Menorca's citizens and its territory.
The management coordinated by Menorca Island Council also includes energy efficiency, water management and waste control measures in collaboration with the municipalities. The project thus becomes a key tool for fulfilling local climate commitments and positioning Menorca as a model of sustainability in the Mediterranean.
The plan includes improvements to wastewater treatment plants, smart irrigation and environmental measures on several islands
