Formentera Council has approved the construction of a new grandstand at the municipal football pitch. The project, with a budget of over 1.7 million euros, seeks to reduce the seasonality of tourist activity by organising cultural activities and sporting competitions all year round.

The project

The Formentera municipal football pitch is undergoing a significant transformation with the construction of a permanent, covered and accessible grandstand. This improvement allows it to host not only sporting events, but also larger-scale cultural events with appropriate seating capacity, safety and comfort conditions.

The project includes the removal of temporary structures and the construction of new facilities with LED lighting, an electronic scoreboard and additional service modules. The project involves an investment of over 1.7 million euros and was carried out in 2024, following completion of the public consultation period with no objections submitted.

One of the key objectives is to encourage more intensive use of the space outside the tourist season. The new infrastructure can host festivals, regional competitions and school and community activities. The Formentera Jazz Festival, for example, is able to increase its capacity in future editions if it deems appropriate.

This action strengthens the commitment to the civic use of sports spaces and the stimulation of the local economy throughout the year. The resulting facility not only provides a service for grassroots sport, but also expands the possibilities for cultural plans and promote citizen coexistence.
