The project

Until now, the cycling network had been marked with confusing and contradictory signage, which made cycling difficult and compromised the safety of users. This plan has made it possible to provide the routes with clear, useful, uniform signage that identifies roads as part of the cycling network and improves its use alongside other road users.

The actions have included three types of signposting: general information boards, indications (arrows) to guide the route, and additional signs at the start of climbs and hills to warn cyclists of the difficulty. This network not only improves road safety, but also raises awareness of Mallorca’s historical and cultural heritage through routes across the island.

The plan supports the economic diversification of the island by promoting sustainable, non-seasonal tourism, with greater potential in autumn and spring. A network of more than 120 specialised hotels has already been established for cycling tourism, together with workshops, shops and catering services that boost economic activity and employment beyond the high season.

With an executed budget of over €246,000 funded entirely by sustainable tourism tax, the plan reinforces Mallorca’s commitment to sustainable mobility, making it a prime destination for cycling enthusiasts through a combination of sport, landscape and culture.
