The project

Magaluf, one of the most iconic tourist hotspots in Mallorca, is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. In this context, the Balearic Government and Calvià Town Council are promoting the remodelling of its seafront promenade. The aim is to reinforce the sustainable model of tourism by improving the quality of public spaces and tackling overcrowding.

The project centres on the redevelopment of a 900-metre-long section, which will still be for pedestrian use only, but with significant improvements. Drains will be upgraded, new lighting will be installed and the promenade will be made wider. Access to the shore will also be improved. The works also seek to improve accessibility and landscape integration.

Budgeted at over €4.8 million, including €1.7 funded by sustainable tourism tax, renovations are still underway. This is part of a broader strategy to revamp the tourist hotspot of Magaluf.

The promenade’s new design will not only benefit tourists, but also aims to enhance the daily lives of residents and business owners by providing a more friendly, efficient urban environment that’s more connected to the coastal landscape. Ultimately, the aim is to move towards a more competitive model for the destination based on social, economic and environmental sustainability principles.
