Expansion of the Ibiza Conference Centre

Expansion of the Conference Centre to diversify the tourist offer and boost business tourism in Ibiza.

What does it consist of?

The goal of this initiative is to expand the Ibiza Conference Centre by executing the second phase of the project, designed to improve the capacity and functionality of the space. This intervention will help to position the island as an attractive destination for business and cultural tourism and, this way, diversify the tourist offer, which has traditionally been linked to sun, beach and nightlife.

The project

The first phase of the Conference Centre, openned in 2007, laid the foundations for the development of the Ibiza Convention Bureau, which brings together more than 75 companies and generates over 5,000 direct jobs and 50% more indirect jobs. However, the current building has limitations, as its maximum capacity is 945 people, with a main space that can only accommodate 437 attendees. This has resulted in the loss of major events, which underlines the need to build the second phase of the centre.

The new building will be located next to the first phase and will be designed to be a multi-purpose space that can accommodate more than a thousand people and several types of events, such as conventions, conferences and concerts. Movable panel systems, retractable bleachers and elevating platforms will be installed, allowing the space to be adapted to the needs of each event. Complementary facilities, such as meeting rooms and work spaces, will also be incorporated to improve access for people with reduced mobility.

The new infrastructure is expected to increase the variety and quality of MICE events, facilitating the participation of more players in the tourism value chain. This initiative will generate economic benefits not only for the industry, but also for suppliers operating outside the tourist season. Moreover, an annual programme of performing arts for all audiences will be promoted and a flow of visitors will be created to discover the cultural diversity of Ibiza.

The project will not only boost the business tourism offer, but will also contribute to the deseasonalisation of the tourism industry. This way, Ibiza will be positioned as a serious and dynamic destination, capable of hosting national and international events, which will help to improve the island's competitiveness in the tourism market.
