The project focuses on active forest management aimed at preventing the risk of forest fires, in order to establish and recover areas and strips of land that acts as horizontal and vertical breaks in plant cover and areas with a lower density of combustible vegetation.

To reduce the potential of of major forest fires starting and spreading, measures need to be implemented regarding the structure and density of combustible vegetation that accumulates in areas classed as Strategic Management Points in different locations around the islands.
A series of preventive measures are therefore deemed to be essential on areas of forest vegetation which, due to their structure or particular location, could in the event of a forest fire entail an extraordinary increase in the spread and extension of the fire front or in its intensity, speed and virulence (where gorges meet, mountain passes, hill crests, etc.).
To achieve these objectives, this project contemplates a series of measures and conservation actions on defensive infrastructure to ensure that forest fire prevention and extinction operations can be carried out as required (firebreaks, water points and road infrastructure), in which, as well as the usual techniques, other experiences can be deployed involving grazing by indigenous species of cattle, donkey, goat, etc. This will help to reduce the amount of combustible vegetation and lower the risk of fires in certain sensitive areas while maintaining the forest management measures already in place, both in linear terms and on the ground in strategic areas.
