The construction of a car park in Camí de les Meravelles addresses a historical demand in the Platja de Palma area. With a total of 319 parking spaces, 10 of which will be reserved for people with reduced mobility and 8 of which will be equipped with electric vehicle charging points, the infrastructure aims to improve traffic flow and facilitate parking in both high and low season.
The project is based on a proposal by the Playa de Palma Hotel Association, which collaborated with the City Council to locate viable spaces. A plot measuring over 8,600 square metres was chosen close to the Llucmajor motorway, with good access and sufficient distance from the busiest tourist areas. The car park will be designed with an environmental approach: shelters equipped with photovoltaic panels will cover a large part of the parking spaces.
In addition to addressing an urban need, the new infrastructure is expected to help traffic decongestion, reduce emissions from vehicles looking for parking and encourage the use of alternative transport. It will be connected to services such as the urban bicycle hire system Bicipalma, and public transport.
The total budget amounts to over three million euros (VAT included) and the estimated execution period is six months, once the drafting of the executive project has been completed. The works will include preparation of the land, paving, lighting, storm water drainage and access control systems, as well as the solar panels.
