Biniparratx Electrifies Its Drinking Water Well to Improve Water Supply

A project to boost efficiency, ensure summer capacity and improve water quality

What does it consist of?

The drinking water well pump on the road through Biniparratx is now electric-powered thanks to a project funded by sustainable tourism tax. Electrification makes it possible to interconnect the wells in the area, increase availability in summer and improve the quality of the water distributed.

The project

The area of Biniparratx has two wells that supply the municipal drinking water network. Until now, one of them was functioning normally thanks to electrical power, while the second one, although authorised for pumping, remained inactive due to the lack of electrification. This drawback was especially noticeable in summer, when demand for water soared and capacity was insufficient to meet these needs.

The project has allowed the inactive well to be supplied with electricity and connected to the distribution network. As such, both wells can now operate alone or at the same time, ensuring sufficient capacity even in periods of high demand. Also, the balanced distribution between the two sources reduces strain on the deeper water well, giving it a longer service life and ensuring a more efficient system overall.

Another major benefit of this action is better water quality. Enabling a well higher above sea level reduces the risk of saltwater intrusion, a growing problem for highly exploited coastal groundwater. This new set-up provides cleaner, safer water for human consumption, while ensuring greater capacity and stability of the service throughout the year.

With an investment of nearly €80,000, the project is part of plans to promote sustainable tourism and responds to the need to upgrade core infrastructure. The action demonstrates how the efficient management of water resources enhances environmental sustainability and the quality of life for residents and tourists.
