The Raiguer region is firmly committed to including cycle tourism as a catalyst for economic diversification, attracting tourism and sustainable mobility. In this first phase of work, seven municipalities are collaborating to create a strategic plan to promote cycling routes that align with the characteristics of the region.
The work includes the drafting of the plan, the design of new routes and research into specially-designed signage. These routes will connect the municipalities with each other and with existing routes in neighbouring municipalities, such as Búger and Selva. The aim is to establish a different kind of tourist attraction, capable of bringing in visitors outside the high season and improving local mobility.
Studies will include the analysis of traffic, road conditions and road ownership, prioritising safe routes on secondary roads or trails owned by the municipalities. Tools such as big data and benchmarking will also be used to tailor the design to existing cycle tourism models and to assess the technical and tourism aspects of each stretch.
With a budget of over €106,000, the initiative aims to lay the foundations for a shared, scalable infrastructure. In the medium term, the municipalities aim to boost their attractiveness through a network that promotes sports, knowledge of natural heritage and the connection between rural areas through sustainable alternatives.
