Sóller Town Council has promoted the refurbishment of the historic Escolàpies building to convert it into a new socio-cultural, outreach and multi-purpose centre. The project is funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) fund and aims to enhance the architectural and cultural heritage of the municipality.
Located just a few minutes from the historic centre, the building combines elements of traditional and neo-gothic architecture. It is home to the municipal archive, a school of music and areas for local associations. The intervention aims to consolidate its structure, improve its functionality and energy efficiency, and adapt the spaces to new cultural and educational uses. The project includes the creation of multi-purpose rooms, classrooms for outreach workshops, an auditorium and outdoor spaces for exhibitions and events. Moreover, accessibility conditions will be improved and emissions will be significantly reduced through energy efficiency and renewable energy measures.
The works, which are already underway, have a maximum completion period of 20 months. It is hoped that this new facility will become a meeting point for residents, visitors and cultural professionals, promoting activity throughout the year and reinforcing the socio-cultural plans on offer in the municipality.
